Sophos home new usb keyboard9/20/2023 Weird! So I start thinking about power source, but both the iMac and the tester MacBook are plugged into the same surge protector on the same outlet. Then I actually noticed that I didn't even have to "click" the buttons, just the physical energy presence of my hand near the buttons would cause the, to "fire". Then I noticed that it would recognize my clicking of only those three buttons, but I was fighting against some ghost clicks. They would sporadically click themselves mute/volume down etc. In fact, eventually it did start recognizing the keyboard in only the volume buttons. So the keyboard is fine, the USB ports are fine because the mouse works with them, the iMac will recognize either of two mouses, but not the keyboard. I then plug the keyboard in my separate MacBook and it works like a charm. I try plugging the keyboard into every work, no go at all. I plug the mouse into every port, works instantly. Now this morning, I go to plug in the login password. Moved to a new place last night and set up the computer and the keyboard even worked then to allow me to punch in the password and new Wifi info, all that. Used the same wired keyboard, admittedly Windows-style, for that year, no problems. Thanks!Ģ014 iMac suddenly not working with wired keyboard Okay, this has me boggled. I am grateful for every hint and support. Of course I tried with different cables and different ports. I still hope this is some kind of software or driver error, but I fear that the USB ports are defective.Įdit: I have tested all the usb devices on other computers and they work fine. I am not trying to boast.)ĭid or does anybody have the same problem or does anybody know a solution for this? I googled until my fingers got sore, but I did't find a thread that remotely described this problem. (I post this information because I don't know if it's relevant. The first thing I did was to reset the SMC (turned my Mac off and unplugged the power chord for the whole day). On my Windows partition (via Boocamp) the external SSD is also very slow, but the keyboard and mouse do not turn off like on MacOS (although I hear the Windows sound for "a new device plugged in" after 10 Seconds, or so). I tested the external SSD on my MacBook Pro and it is super fast there. This happens even when the external drive is not plugged in. I have a Corsair K100 Keyboard and a Logitech G Series, both illuminated, that's how I noticed it.Īfter about 2 Minutes my keyboard and mouse turn on and I can work normally. Now, whenever I start my iMac on MacOS everything boots fine, I login to my user account and then all my USB devices turn off. At first I noticed that my external Seagate Firecuda SSD (connected via Thunderbolt) slowed down significantly (30 Mb/s max, before > 600MB/s). So I am having trouble with my 27" iMac from 2020.
